Byram Township Municipal OrdinanceWeeds can often be unsightly to your neighbors' as well as harbor snakes and insects. The following is Byram Township's ordinance regarding the weed management on one's property.
Property Maintenance Code #186-15: Exterior Property AreasSection D. Healthy Lawns and LandscapesMany homeowners are recognizing the role lawn care plays in keeping our lake healthy. The root systems of grass are very shallow and do little to inhibit erosion or filter runoff. In fact, lawns have little more benefit to your lake than pavement! In addition, fertilizers and pesticides for your lawn wash into the lake, adding huge amounts of nutrients that feed the weeds in the lake; we certainly don't want to feed our weeds!
Here is a great brochure from the Chatham Township Board of Health in conjunction with the Chatham Township Environmental Commission, with tips for maintaining healthy lawns and landscapes without negatively impacting the lake. Please take the time to read it and use it in practice!
